International English Language Testing System
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an International Standardized Test of English Language proficiency. It is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration, with over 2 million tests taken in the last year. IELTS is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment through more than 900 test centers and locations in over 140 countries. IELTS assesses all of your English skills — reading, writing, listening and speaking and is designed to reflect how you will use English at study, at work, and at play, in your new life abroad.
There are two versions of the IELTS test

IELTS Academic:
The IELTS Academic test is suitable for those wanting to study in an English-speaking environment or university (higher education). You can also take IELTS Academic for professional registration purposes.
The test measures if you are ready to begin studying in English. It features vocabulary that is familiar within an academic setting.
IELTS General Training
The IELTS General Training test is suitable for those applying to study below degree level. This includes an English-speaking school or college. It can also be taken for work experience or other employment training.
